Don`t freak, just because I`m not actually a band. I am, according to Tom Bianchi, "The Resident Storyteller of the Lizard Lounge Monday Open Mike", and I`m also a web developer.

One of the things I`ve been working on is the problem of how to put sound files into web pages. Whether you`re a musician or a spoken-word artist, if you have a web page, you`re going to want to put samples of your work on it. Since there is no guarantee that any given User will actually have a certain Browser or the right plugin(s), this has been a real conundrum.

For example, let`s say you`ve just written a new song called "I`m Going To Stuff You (like a Thanksgiving Turkey)", and it`s posted on your website. You proudly call up your Grandma to tell her about it, but Nana can`t play it. She`s still using Netscape 4.7 because the e-mail client is so reliable. Then you call up yer Ma, and you call up yer Pa. They say, "Go away, Boy, and leave us a-lone. Switch to IE? Don`t you know Bill Gates is the Devil?"

And so on. Do they have the right version of the Windows Media Player, MusicMatch, RealPlayer, or QuickTime plugin installed, etc.? And, if they`re at their boring day job, will Corporate Policy even let them have Active-X components on their computer?
